NEXT IN CHEONGSAM – YOUNG DESIGNER CHALLENGE 2021 - 2023

Denim and Cheongsam both have unique histories and followers. SFAA's founding chairman, Stafford Lau, is a denim expert who sponsored denim fabrics for the candidates of the "Next in Cheongsam" competition organized by SPARKLE CHARITY FOUNDATION LIMITED and HKDI. The candidates were also provided with trim materials, sample-making assistance, and technical support. Additionally, eco-friendly washing technology and laser printing technology were utilized to add value to the products.

HKDI fashion design students were given a comprehensive two-week workshop to introduce them to the basics of denim fabric. The workshop covered various topics such as the study of different textile types, washing and sewing technologies, the production process, the limitations, and uniqueness of denim, as well as the analysis of different famous brands' denim collections. Students also learned about ready-to-wear denim and selecting suitable fabrics to match different styles. In addition, they were invited to Jeanologia to witness a demonstration on eco-friendly washing and laser technology. This workshop provided the students with a solid foundation in denim fabric and its production processes, preparing them for their future in the fashion industry.
